Holidays & Porch Pirates

It’s that time of year when package deliveries make an easy target for “porch pirates.” These pirates aren’t cruising the waters of the Caribbean, but riding around neighborhoods, looking for holiday gifts to snatch from front stoops. This theft is growing in frequency as people do more of their shopping online. The holidays are the biggest season for deliveries, of course.

Although it’s nearly impossible to prevent this entirely, we can work together to combat the issue and help keep Summer Pines safe from package theft and break-ins.

• Be aware of your surroundings – watch for cars and people you do not know

• Report suspicious activity to the police immediately

• Partner with neighbors to collect packages while away from the home

• Keep doors (home and vehicles) locked

• Keep garage doors closed

As a courtesy to fellow residents, please remove packages delivered by mail immediately, keeping the large mailbox compartments available for all.
